A Look at the Book #144

The Devotional

The Bible is “THE HOLY BOOK” enough said!

Most real estate people will tell you that property is only worth what people are willing to pay. So it is not what you or me may want for our real estate when we desire to sell it, but more likely based on the real estate agent who should know what the properties in our area are selling for. So it really does not matter about the work effort you or me has put into the property, nor does it matter if we paid more than it is now worth. Time, effort and cost have no real value, it is all relative. So looking at the gospel of Jesus Christ, why would God the Father allow His Son to become the “all sufficient sacrifice for your sins and mine” Is it because we have put so much time, effort and cost into our lives that we are worth it? God forbid that we should ever think that, although some might. Luke 18:10-14. So why the sacrifice? John 1:29; Hebrews 9:23-28.

Psalms

Psalm 3:1-8 How do you handle trouble when it comes? Now don't say you never have trouble; that is simply not true. Sometimes we ignore it and sometimes we are willing to fight against it. But most often we cry out for help. If you believe that God will help, you cry out to Him and if you do not, you may cry out to a deceased mom or dad, and of course if they are alive, mom and dad are first on the list, even if you do have faith in God.

But people rise up against us and at first it does not seem to be important. Time proves the trouble though and soon your in the thick of it. You've done what you can, you have even prayed with others concerning the trouble and then, of a sudden it seems, the people you've prayed with says something like this. Okay, now look at the mess, where is God now?

So what is the answer to these folks and where is our peace or victory in the matter. David ran from his son Absalom, when Absalom sought to take over the kingdom. David was torn between his love for his son and the will of God for Israel. This is no small matter and to some degree our children challenge us in similar ways daily.

There are three words in this Psalm that are often overlooked that provide the answer. Selah! Selah! Selah! During the rising up of trouble, our victory is to wait patiently for the LORD. During the battle He is our shield as we wait patiently for His Voice. And in the battle He will smite the cheek bone of the enemy and break their teeth, their voice will no longer be heard. But of course, if you do not “Selah” do not expect victory, Selah, means to wait on the LORD!
