A Look at the Book #137
by Jesse Abel
The Devotional
Papa “J” says
There are only two platforms to stand on in the world. One is the platform of imitation to do good and loves evil. The other is the platform of genuine good and shuns evil. One platform will steal your life, the other will restore your life. John 10:9-10. You chose!
Once on a night out in a foreign country a few of us sailors were outside the normal area that most sailors would go. In other words we were in a local neighborhood that seldom saw an outsider, let alone nine foreign sailors walking the streets. To get the picture it would be like looking out your window in the evening and seeing the commotion of nine people talking loudly in a foreign tongue with military clothing on. This was forty years ago and soon we were confronted by a group of local men that out numbered us threefold. Pointless to say, they marched us back to town and we were told by one of them who spoke English to stay in town or suffer their wrath. We should have such care in this country today, but my personal belief is that we have become weak and cowardly. We are letting people walk our streets, molest our neighborhoods, corrupt our schools, confuse our governments and destroy our Constitution. Maybe we do need a few godly men to march these unwanted foreigners back to town where there are several ships waiting to carry them back to their homeland.
A Look at the Psalms
We most likely will not look at all of the Psalms, but at this point I do not know. We will start out with the first Psalm and see where the LORD takes us. Although I've read most of them, I've not studied but a few so this will be an adventure. God is awesome, He is also eager to explain to us His wonderful attributes. The Psalm writers will show us what trusting God meant to them as they lived out His Word and gained faith in His Character. May God grant us wisdom and understanding in our studies of the Psalms.
Psalm 1 is one that I did study, just after being saved it became very important to me and one that I memorized. Often people talk about memorization as if it were the hardest thing to do in life. Yet, in real terms we memorize things daily, but to memorize anything at all it must first get our attention, or become important. Until our attention is directed at the subject it is impossible to become intimately involved with knowing the detail. When the mind and the subject are properly lined up, the mind will become like a sponge and absorb the whole and there will be no crumbs for the vacuum to pick up!
Psalm 1 We will really get into this on Tuesday, but here is a challenge for us today. There is a path for people to take. One is the path of Righteousness and the other as you have guess is a path of unrighteousness. This Psalm will identify the results of those who walk these two very different paths. God has a blessing for your day today and you do not have to go and search Him out... behold He stands at door and knocks, open the door and be blessed. Christ Jesus is our peace. Ephesians 2:14-18. Through Him we have access by the Spirit to the Father.
