Daily Notes #10
by Jesse Abel
A Devotional Study of the Living Word of God
Psalm 119:90 The height and depth of the fall of mankind may present us with serious failures of life and death. But in contrast to the faithfulness of God, this is but a small bump in the road. The earth stands, his laws of creation do not fail and His Word endures to all generations.
Good Morning
It does not take much for our world to fall apart. The loss of a loved one, a job, health and a host of other circumstances can cause a serious change in direction. Some of these directional changes are unavoidable, like health and life; but for those other things we can be the root cause. Things like divorce, parental responsibility and knowingly making wrong choices. Whenever the finger pointing begins, I always find that there are four fingers pointed back at me. I have made very wrong choices in life and knowing that I do not live alone on this planet I can confidently say the same about you. In fact; if we were as good as we think we are in comparing ourselves to the backdrop of the humanity around us. There would be no need of God and His Word with all of those Laws, Promises and Challenges to guide us to the Cross of Jesus Christ. So, my comments about our unholy condition should not offend, but encourage. Those things in life that are avoidable usually creep into our lives because of “selfish procrastination” Knowing what to do and failing to do it, is procrastination and it is sin at the early stages. Cain knew what to do, but failed to do it and murdered his brother Abel. Genesis 4:6-7 and James 4:17. Here is part of a quote from and unknown source. “When you have a responsibility to do something, begin the very moment it enters your mind. You supply the will, God supplies the power. This is the WILL POWER of obedience! Procrastination will dissipate like the fog in the early morning sun.” God is faithful, and in His care you will never be disappointed.
Romans 1
The Righteousness of God – reveals the unrighteousness of Mankind
Romans 1:18 There are those of us who shun the rest of this chapter. I think that most of us do. Most of us would like to see the chapter end with verse 17. The wrath of God: Does this really apply to us? Have I allowed my self to be accountable to God's judgment and wrath? Can it be said of me that I have suppressed the truth as a result of some unrighteous behavior. The answer to these questions is resident in your heart and you know the answer is yes, without anyone explaining it to you. Awe, but there are those who would say. “Phweet” How could this apply to me? I do not even believe there is a God! Sadly that sort of thinking reveals the truth you already know. Psalm 19:1-6 demonstrates an important point – we are without excuse.
I would like for us to see something interesting about one of the words in verse 18. It is the word “suppress” the Greek word is – katechonton It is a word used only once in the bible and it means to actively press down by instruction or teaching. The point of this is that we have all been involved by being taught to deny and to teach others around us the basic principles denying God. In other words to some degree we are all guilty of suppressing the truth by unrighteous behavior. Romans 3:23.
Romans 1:19 God is actively proclaiming His existence to all the world, His revelation to us is manifested and revealed to us constantly. There is never a second of time that God is not “in our face” so to speak. Our blindness to this truth is not a handicap placed on us by the devil, our blindness is a result of willful denial, rejection and disobedience to God. Like that song that so many of us like to sing. “My way!” made very popular by Frank Sinatra. “I did it my way” is really a sad way!
