Take Note #8

A Devotional Study of the Living Word of God

Psalm 119:88 Spiritually, we need a daily revival, yes we are saved and like being alive in the flesh our bodies are daily refreshed with food and water. A daily portion of the Word of God will revive the Living Water in us for the fore ordained work of the day!

Good Morning

What happens when we worry? We bring tomorrow's difficulties into today. God did not give us grace for tomorrow's difficulties. He only gives us grace for today. When we reach into tomorrow's troubles, we overload today's circuit. Worry does not take the sorrow or consequence out of tomorrow, but it does take the strength out of today. When we meet up with tomorrow, we are already out of breath because we have overloaded ourselves from yesterday's worries. Thus worry does not make us ready for the future, but in fact; is the cause for us to be unprepared. Look at yesterday as a canceled check and tomorrow as a promissory note. Spend today wisely, there is sufficient time for today, as there will be sufficient time for tomorrow; this is good stewardship!” A revised version of Adrian Roger's, “Thought for Today” We are embarking on an exciting study – The epistle of Romans completely covers the life of you and me in Christ. We could go verse by verse and be in this epistle forever. At times we might take a verse at a time, and I know already that in taking several verses at a time we will miss a lot. So pray that God will slow us down or speed us up as our spiritual needs are revealed.

Romans 1

Romans 1:1-5 The apostle starts out by giving us his identity to Jesus Christ the Son of God. He states that he is a “servant” this is the Greek word “doulos”. The word carries much more than the English rendering of servant or slave. Paul understood that his relationship to Jesus Christ as being that of a “bond servant” The word goes beyond the initial thought of being a purchased slave and just as us, he was initially purchased through the Christ's sacrifice. Paul now realizes that he is a servant out of love for Christ, a deeper relationship. This is a positional relationship of justification, sanctification and glorification. This is the Grace theme of Romans. Holiness and obedience to “The Faith” is the works of Romans and we have an exciting time ahead of us. Grace and works revealed.

Romans 1:6-7 We are among the “ones who God calls saints” This is more that a title or name. It is a position, a position that is permanent. In this epistle as in all of the New Testament God has much to say to those of us who are positionally standing in the grace of “Justification, Sanctification and Glorification” we will be seeing these words a lot and we will also see that this position is filled with peace. By the end of this study we should be so at peace with being a bond servant of Jesus Christ that our hearts are overflowing with grace and peace. Romans 5:1-5.

Romans 1:8-15 Do you have a strong spiritual desire to share the truth of the gospel of Christ with others. I think that there are times that we saints have this desire, but I believe also that there are far to many times that we do not. Notice what the apostle states here in verse 9 that God is his witness that Paul's service or ministry is connected with his human spirit. In other words; God the Holy Spirit and Paul's human spirit are functioning as “one”. One in purpose, in prayer, in longing, in provision of Spiritual gifts and in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Since we are in the like minded faith that Paul describes here, then we too should consider ourselves a debtor to everyone we come in contact with. We run into people everywhere who are accurately identified for us in verse 14. So, we should be ready to preach the gospel, even if it means going to some place of God's choosing. Preaching the gospel of God cannot be fully complete in us if our human spirit is not involved with God the Holy Spirit.
