A Devotional Study of the Living Word of God

Psalm 119:87 A precept is a rule or code of conduct; Here the Psalmist is reflecting on the thought that life can end for him on earth but that he is confident that he has maintained integrity in his walk with the LORD! Do we have this same confidence?

Good Morning

I do not remember exactly how old I was, maybe ten, but I remember one morning when my mom was walking me to school. In those days, not many automobiles had curved windshields since the technology was not complete to this point. As we traveled from block to block, I was complaining about the books I was carrying. We did not have back packs in those days either, but we did have book satchels only we did not have one of those because we could not afford these things. My mom thought I should stop complaining since she was pregnant and as she put it, “making the baby upset”! About that time we stepped onto the street. A car had come to a stop to our left and we thought that it was okay to cross. As soon as we got to the middle of the hood of the car, the driver started to make a right hand turn. We attempted to yell at the driver, since it was cold out and his windows were up, he heard nothing. Pushing us backward, I felt the increase of motion. I took all of my books and hurled them at the windshield. Bullseye! The one heavy book that caused most of my complaint was now a life saver. It bounced off the windshield and the man behind the steering wheel, stopped his car and life goes on without an injury. Some of us today have forgotten or never learned that there several reasons to stop at stop signs. After thought: Books are printed to be read and not to be complained about, also books can be used in a pinch to ward off dangers when needed, thus we should be thankful to carry them. So, quit complaining, because your upsetting the baby!

Acts 28

Acts 28:1-10 The law of the LORD is perfect converting the soul, the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. Psalm 19:7. All to often we are in similar situations where our testimony is being observed by people who seek wisdom. At the onset we are sized up and at first can be considered inappropriate, but as time goes by the thoughts and considerations of others change because they see Christ in us. We are not gods; but we are representatives of Christ in us. The healing words of the gospel of Jesus Christ is needed – everywhere we go.

Acts 28:11-16 Some of us would think twice about boarding a ship with the heads of the “twin brothers” Castor and Pollux” Zeus's sons. But this would mean that we had little knowledge of who these so-called gods are; in those days they were considered patrons of sailors. There is a more in-depth study of these twins, but Greek mythology is not my favorite subject, I like talking about Jesus, He alone is the lover of my soul, whom I love as well. He alone provides truth to this mortal life. He also provides wonderful and sweet fellowship with those brothers and sisters who call upon Him for salvation.

Acts 27:17-31 For the most part the Jews at Rome reject the testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. But I do not see from this ending portion of Acts that Paul suffered additional persecution, these Jews had no knowledge of Paul's earlier troubles in Jerusalem. The Holy Spirit confirms that since the Jews in Rome had rejected the message of the gospel that the Gentiles would listen and that the ministry of redemption should be granted to the Gentiles and taken away from the Jew. The apostle has two great years of evangelistic outreach to the Jews and the Gentiles in Rome. His epistle to the Romans is coming up next. Love God and lean on your understanding of Him and He will direct your path. Proverbs 16:3-6.
